Gianni Politi (b. 1986, Rome) lives and works in Rome. His practice, primarily centred on painting, is deeply rooted in both the classical and modern pictorial traditions of Italy, and explores the condition and challenges of being a contemporary painter today.
A sustained inquiry into the relationship between past and present underpins Politi’s work. His paintings move fluidly between abstraction and figuration, and range in scale from intimate studies to monumental canvases.
Politi’s large abstract works often reflect themes of struggle and conflict—some directly inspired by historical military battles, others addressing tensions within contemporary society. These paintings are produced through a physical process of slashing and cutting existing works, which are then reassembled onto larger canvases.
