Dovecot Studios worked with Scottish Irish artist William Crozier (1930-2011) to create a tapestry inspired by one of his paintings. Drawn to the artist's vibrant palette and expressive approach, Dovecot weavers asked Crozier to choose a work that he felt would make for an interesting and compelling tapestry. The painting decided upon was 'Easter Day', which was created specifically for an exhibition at The Scottish Gallery in 1990.
A landscape rendered in bold, energetic colours, 'Easter Day' encapsulates Crozier's style, and Dovecot weavers worked with the artist to select the colours for the tapestry to maintain the integrity of the palette. The loose expression of the natural forms and the vivid marks are rendered expertly in tapestry by three of Dovecot's Master Weavers, and the large scale of the piece adds further to the energy of Crozier's work.

Crozier was born in Scotland and educated at Glasgow School of Art from 1949-1953. Following graduation, he settled in London where he established a reputation as one of the most avant-garde artists of his time before gaining Irish citizenship and splitting his time between Dublin and Kent. His work is held in many major collections and his artistic contribution has been celebrated in Scotland and internationally with various exhibitions.
