In 2018, The National Portrait Gallery of Denmark at Frederiksborg Castle held a mid-career retrospective of Heimans’ work, which was officially opened by HM Queen Margrethe II. The exhibition featured outstanding portraits of Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary of Denmark, along with public figures including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ben Kingsley, Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy, as well as his series of celebrated authors including Margaret Atwood, Gillian Flynn, Jo Nesbo, Anne Tyler, Tracy Chevalier and Howard Jacobson.
Heimans’ works are held in major international collections including The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, The Royal Collection, Westminster Abbey, The National Portrait Gallery of Australia, The National History Museum of Denmark, Australia’s Parliament House and The European Court in Luxembourg. In 2014 he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to portraiture.« Less
